Tournaments with GKR
Some karate ka enjoy taking part in tournaments as they like to gauge how they are progressing in their karate.
There are several tournaments throughout the year usually culminating in the 'Nationals' This tournamenrt is where the best from the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Central Zones compete against each other for the National titles.
Tournaments are made up of different discliplines. Kata, Kumite, Team Kata and team Kumite and depending on the age of the karate ka they may enter 1, 2, 3 or 4 events. Each karate ka competes against competitors of their own level and age. These are set out as divisions. When you grade to a different belt you may have to move up divisions depending on the grade you ahev gone to and when you have a birthday you may have to move as well.
The tournaments are usually well attended and are an excellent way of watching karate of all ages and abilities.
