Etiquette and traditions

There are certain rules and policies that are upheld in a dojo (training hall)

The dojo for the purpose of karate training is considered sacred ground and as entering and exiting the dojo a karate ka bows as a gesture of humiolity and willingness to train.

If you need to leave your line for any reason, it is considered polite to get the instructors attention and bow before leaving the line.  When wanting to regain your position you need to wait for permission and bow and then return.

During your karate class you should not sit on chairs. If you need to sit down you should do so on the floor.

A lower grade student should never ask a higher grade student to spar (kumite)

There should eb no contact during sparring and lower grade students should be especially careful.

A student should not push for higher grading, he /she may ask if they are ready and must accept the instructors decision.

Food should  not be eaten in the dojo.

No jewellry should be worn.  Wedding rings should be taken off if possible

Finger and toe nails should be kept clean and well manicured in the dojo
